Design Plan: Luce & Light

Today, DesignPlan brought in Luce & Light (L&L) so we could check out their new outdoor fixtures, made in their Vicenza, Italy factory. Everything was well designed and of excellent quality.

New & Updated fixtures:

  • Tago: linear in-grade, tilt +/-20deg without opening the fixture, antiglare louvers, individual honeycomb louvers on the diode.
*The River is being discontinued, to be replaced by Tago

  • Colorado: the largest in the linear family. Adjustable frame/frameless.
It will be on the website 12/1! We were impressed with how quiet the fixture is considering the very high output.

  • Quilatero: The new Square in-grade comes in four (4) different sizes with wattages from 8W-24W. It is available in fixed or adjustable (from outside) with IP69K (suitable for power wash). Comes with 2 styles of trim: without visible screws for a discreet look suitable for high-end residential or with regressed screws for more secure installation.

    • The wallwasher option has a spacing ratio of 1:2 from wall to O.C

  • Alto Piano: We were the first to see the sample in North America, Woohoo!
Round & Square recessed downlights that are IP66, available four (4) sizes. Housing is a polymer with magnetic trim - Trim and glass are flush (we liked this sleek look!). Hexcell louver accessory is available.

None of these are stocked. All are made to order with various options with a 6-week lead time. Housings can ship more quickly.

Typ, 2200k CCT is now an option. In addition to standard CCTs, fixtures may have the option for tunable white or dim-to-warm 1800K to 3000K.

2022 BDNY

Did you miss this year's BDNY? No worries, we have you covered! Here are some of the products we found interesting for various projects. Mostly glass works and metal works for high-end residentials, lobbies, and large decoratives (mostly pendants) for natural rustic material suitable for hospitality projects!

LUCIFER LIGHTING

Today we looked at the LUCIFER LIGHTING updated track lights, eco line downlights, and new anodized finishes (beautiful!).

ATOMOS:

  • a very affordable downlight. Good lead time of 1 to 3 weeks

  • A huge plus is that they have trimless millwork at an affordable price point (haven't seen many competitors offering this option). Round and square trim, available as new construction and remodel housing.

  • The adjustable model has a max 30-degree tilt.

  • The wall washer has a small kicker to push the light out of the ceiling.

  • Note: For the wall washer, the square trim has a better performance and higher output compared to the round trim. 1000lm vs. 920lm for the round trim. The round has a 1:1 ratio, but the square allows further spacing. For the round trim, we noticed a round spread on the side so be careful with spacing.

We also looked at a new zoom fixture, rotating the optics to adjust the spread. It only moves from 20 to 40 degrees, and had a large field angle, so it may not be a good option for art lighting.

TRACK HEADS:

  • New Alumina finishes with four (4) matt and four (4) brushed options (a new anodizing process). They looked gorgeous!

  • Warm dim is available in different outputs in the remote driver model. It's also available in medium size with an integral driver, BUT there is a wattage restriction. It's a YES, but $$$

  • Integral ELV driver down to 5% to 2%. There is a restriction with output. Max 1300lm delivered 900 for medium size.

  • The remote driver version goes up to 2300lm.

  • The nice thing is that their 120V medium track head seats flush to the track with an integral driver.

  • Monopoint has a mud-in ring for flush mounting the slim canopy.

  • The standard stem length is 1.4", but it can be ordered up to 12". They are moving toward making their new track stem (on the center) the standard. Updating T2 to this.

  • Large-size wallwasher track offers typical 3ft spacing for a 15ft ceiling. They have a little light leak on the ceiling.

  • Their tack and monopoint accept 2 accessories. They can provide a cross baffle, depending on the project size! Ask

  • They are looking out to expand their track system toward two circuits, pendant mount, surface, and recessed!

MARSET

Today, we paid a visit to the MARSET showroom to look at their expanded indoor and outdoor fixtures.

Overall, the fixtures come in playful colors and unique finishes. One thing to remember is that not all the products are offered in 2700K, although they offered more in this CCT than other decorative manufacturers we’ve dealt with.

They have a couple of new outdoor fixtures, such as the JAIMA pendant, and floor mounted fixture with a flexible fabric shade. We also liked the SANTORINI, a pendant-mounted fixture inspired by the lantern shape with a glass lens and playful finishes. It looks like a modern-looking vapor-proof fixture.

Another interesting fixture that we looked at was the BOHEMIA. We liked the opaque outer finished blown glass which was somehow translucent and provided a nice light effect.

LANDSCAPE LIGHTING

Today we went over updated and new products with LANDSCAPE LIGHTING:

TYPOLOGY Ring Light: Dark sky-rated pole light fixture with a ring shape illuminated component. The flexible LED light ( Q-tran) is clamped into fixture housing with aluminum segmented arcs. Housing features a spun aluminum gloss white powder coat reflector. Available in 2700K, 3000K, 3500K, and 4000K. +90 CRI. The driver is located on the top near the ring.

TYPOLOGY Path Light: A 41” tall bollard with a mix of concrete and aluminum; available with a single LED cartridge for a Type III distribution (265lm), or two back-to-back LED cartridges for a Type V distribution (525lm). Available in 2700K, 3000K, 3500K, and 4000K. +80CRI

TYPOLOGY Stick Light: A pole light fixture that could be used more as a landscape element for its look. Available in 10', 13', and 16' height with 2’, 3’, and 4’ illuminated slots; around 400lm/ft, and configurable with low and high output options.

This fixture’s body is made of a custom extruded column that is 3.5" in diameter and the illuminated part has three internal linear LED strips (Q-tran LED) with raised frosted acrylic lens.

This fixture uses the hinge feature for easy access to the light sources for maintenance. The driver is on top near the light source.

Selux

Today Selux hosted a webinar to fill us in on some of their new products.

ELO Wood

  • Selux now works with Structura to create this wood fixture. This is a multi-layered wood that is treated and finished.

  • These products have a 50 year warranty above ground, and a 25 year warranty below ground. This warranty covers rotting, cracking, and finish fading.

  • It is a marine grade finish.

  • Everything is accessible from the bottom of the fixture.

  • Currently, the fixture comes with 3 rows of LEDs but can be customized to 2 rows if needed.

M36 Wall Washer

  • This is their new wall wash fixture. It is much more effective than using their A20 optic.

  • The bottom of the fixture protrudes just slightly.

  • It is suggested that it is 18” from the wall it is lighting, and 9” from any perpendicular wall.

  • This fixtures utilizes their M36 housing.

  • If this is turning a corner, the corners must be filled with blanks.

  • This fixture comes in a black of white finish.

This is a nice walkway fixture. They will sell just the fixture for other applications. Available in 2700K-5000K CCT.

The 10° forward throw in the presented sample is the smallest the can get. It's a great option as a bollard lighting in ground.

  • Wagner will assist with layouts and meeting local code requirements. They are also releasing a design guide to simplify the specification process.

  • The Lights get attached to the rail on site.

  • The average price is $275/sqft for everything.

  • The Integral driver is a new option for rail lighting.

UFO

Today we had UFO come in to discuss their fiber optic and LED products. Fiber Optics

All of their fiber optic systems consist of three components:

The light source can consist of a color wheel, RGBW, or dichroic sources.

They offer end lit or side emitting products. The side emitting products come in two different types: side sparkle and smooth solid core.

The end lit products are typically made from glass while the side sparkle are typically made from food grade plastic.

  • 90w is the strongest fiber optic product
  • 20w products will be close to the 50w-75w tungsten market

For the end lit products, you are able to changes lenses to change the beam spread of the product.

These products do have a bend radius limitation which is important to consider when using it around corners. A large positive of these fiber optic fixtures is that the light source is the only point of maintenance.

The fiber optic products can be used for a multitude of applications. The end lit products are great for pools, museums, ceiling stars, and much more. The side emitting (the side sparkle particularly) is great for sensory systems in the medical field. The side emitting is also great for pool lighting.

They also showed us their LED products.

They had spot and wash fixtures. The wash fixtures slide into the fittings and the spot fixtures snap in to a magnetic system. The optics of these fixtures can also be changed. The following sizes are available.

  • 45mm
  • 95mm
  • 1250mm
  • 2450mm

These fixtures are not wireless. There is 1.6 meters of lead wire available. Finishes include: black and silver. The magnetic ball will always be silver regardless of finish(as shown below).

They also mentioned that they do have LED down lights (as shown below) which are essentially an LED version of their fiber optics system.

Prolume

Prolume stopped by to present their new products. They have custom manufactured LED strips and in house manufactured LED board.

They use 2-step binned LEDs from Cree and Nichia LED chip, ranging from 2200K up to 6000K, 4° light spread. The 5" segment is the smallest they can do in LED strip.

They presented a custom fixture using series CLA fixtures. (It's great for illuminating high ceilings and has 1ft increment).

  • Initially developed for "National Archives Museum".
  • 3 different optics. Spot, medium flood, and flood
  • Mounted in a custom cradles.

* They use custom designed hi-flux LED (CREE XLamp, XP-E LEDs) to achieve 2850K

*  Each LED bin they use are only one color and brightness group and is uniquely identified by a bin code.
